Mathodical —- Crispin Holder

Stunning hand-painted geometric compositions. Intricate precision of colour, tone and form. Must be viewed close up to fully appreciate.

“Mathodical” – a visual unity of maths and method.

Crispin’s hand painted compositions develop with a mathematical progression or order in mind. The artist is fascinated with the endless outcomes that can be achieved with simple algorithms when applied to visual concepts. Order can be found throughout his paintings, both in the compositional structures and the placement of colours themselves. Sometimes Crispin will repeat a composition with a different approach to colour until certain curiosities have been satisfied. Using these principles, he has also produced many commissioned paintings for clients who have had a particular colour palette in mind.

As an artist, Crispin is a meticulous perfectionist. He strives to achieve complete accuracy with every line, angle and edge on his canvases, resulting in stunning paintings that must be seen in the flesh to be fully appreciated.

Crispin has also added a “MONo” (“Mini Original No.”) collection to his body of work. Smaller and more affordable, these hand painted pieces are produced to the same high standards using an identical approach to his larger paintings.
