In My Mind’s Eye: Richly textured abstract paintings with vibrant yet subtle colours inspired by the landscape, and seductive glassworks which explore the mutability of colour and light.
The Exhibition
This will be the 4th exhibition entitled " In my mind’s eye “
During the pandemic Liz Hauck led a group of accomplished female artists with regular workshops via Zoom, The work produced during this period led to their first group exhibition under the "In my mind’s eye” banner.
Having previously exhibited at High Clandon Vineyard in summer 2020 they moved to West Horsley Place for Xmas 2021. The success of this exhibition led to the second larger exhibition in West Horsley Place’s newly renovated Barn in June 2022 and more recently at Surrey Hills Christmas Fair, in November 2022 . Liz Hauck has successfully curated en eclectic mix of abstract art from her Wildwood Artists group with the fabulous glass produced by master craftsman Adam Aaaronson.
On this occasion at the Fountain Gallery, two members of the group, Sylvia Igglesden and Debbie Tearle will be exhibiting alongside Liz and Adam.
The Artists
Adam Aaronson has made several beautiful new vases specifically for the February exhibition at the Fountain Gallery. Adam specialises in free blown glass and he uses colour and painterly techniques with great skill. He is inspired by a love of nature, especially light on water and the beautiful landscape of the Surrey Hills where his studio is, and the Impressionist painters are also a significant inspiration for his work.
Liz Huack’s paintings are abstract and her approach to painting is expressive. She paints from imagination tapping into feelings and memories. Painting for her is like the improvisation of a jazz player riffing around a theme, in her case using colour, shape and texture. Following the jazz analogy she choose music tracks to name her paintings.
Debbie Tearle is a self-taught artist who over the years has experimented with a variety of mediums and techniques. She creates expressive semi abstract artwork using acrylics, inks, oils and cold wax medium. Her works on paper include inks, monotype prints and mixed media. She enjoys developing textural layers and exciting marks within her pieces. The landscape is a constant source of inspiration and her work is an expression of an emotional reaction felt in the moment. Debbie has exhibited locally and in London in group shows, art fairs and galleries. She is a member of ArtCan, Wildwood Artists and several local groups.
Sylvia Igglesden found it was only as an empty nester that she picked up a paintbrush again and began a passion for abstract expressionism. Spurred on by her art loving sister in law Jane, who was sadly diagnosed with Alzheimers in her late 50s, she now works tirelessly to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society through the sale of her art. Her initiative Artworks4Alzheimers has raised
She derives her inspiration from nature, her love of outdoor pursuits (a keen sportswoman) and the bold shapes and colours in interior design and architecture. Over the last few years her experimenting with different media and base materials has created some bold and colourful abstract work. She uses photography to inspire her but prefers to paint from memory. She has been a wild card for the past two years on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year.
A real eco warrior ( and her frugal northern up bringing ) means she prefers to repurpose old artworks and charity shop finds rather than line the pockets of the big Art supply traders. Her love of bright colour and mixed media is inspired by her favourite artists Barbara Rae and Gerhard Richter.
