Homo Homini Lupus (Man is Wolf to Man) — Orsi Cowell-Lehoczky

Artworks in multiple media, based on the freedom of abstraction and a search to find the balance between ‘meaningful’, ‘simplified’ and ‘incomprehensible’.

Homo homini lupus (or more accurately homo homini lupus est) is a Latin proverb, and in Orsi's interpretation it stands for the idea that humankind is its own greatest predator.

Originally, the works in this show were to explore the relation and balance between ‘meaningful’, ‘simplified’ and ‘incomprehensible’, but recent events dictated a very different angle. The new works shown are solely focus on the ‘incomprehensible’ in relation to the raging war in Ukraine - a very different take. Orsi hopes that this deviation won’t deter anyone from visiting, as alongside these newest paintings, she is also exhibiting some of her best paintings and works on paper from the last couple of years’ “crop” too.
